TACOMA, Wash.-- (From UPS Sports Information Office) Two first-half goals was all it took for the sixth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers to clinch at least a tie for their seventh straight Northwest Conference title with a 2-0 win over the 16th-ranked Whitworth Pirates in a NWC women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon on East Athletic Field in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers (14-1-0, 12-0-0 NWC) got on the board first in the 9th minute when Fiona Gornick dribbled into the middle of the box and found Janece Levien on the right side for Levien's 20th goal of the season and a 1-0 Logger lead. UPS made it 2-0 in the 28th minute following a long feed by Nikki Graff that found freshman Jenny Moore and Moore finished the play for the 2-0 lead.

Whitworth fought hard to get back into the match in the second half, outshooting the Loggers 9-6 in the period. But only three of those attempts were on goal and UPS keeper Kallie Wolfer made all three saves to collect the shutout. Callie Bergstrom (Fr., GK, Spokane, Wash.) made five saves for the Pirates.

The win gave the Loggers a 12-point advantage over second-place Willamette in the NWC standings. With just four games to go, the Loggers can clinch sole possession of the conference title with a win or a tie in any of their remaining games.

Whitworth (11-4-1, 7-4-1 NWC), which saw its five game losing streak come to an end, is now two points behind Willamette (10-6, 8-4) in the standings. The Pirates will try to hold onto third, or move up in the standings, with a road game at Whitman on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
