Whitworth Takes First Two at Lewis & Clark

PORTLAND, Ore. - Jessica Mangis earned a pair of wins in the circle, while Lacey Kerr drove in five runs to lead Whitworth to a Northwest Conference doubleheader sweep at Lewis & Clark on Friday afternoon. The Pirates won the opener 8-4 and came from behind to win the nightcap 6-3.

Whitworth improved to 12-14 overall and 8-8 in the NWC. The Pioneers dropped to 1-29, 1-19.

Game 1: Whitworth 8, Lewis & Clark 4 - box score and play by play
Mangis came on in relief with one out in the fourth inning and went 3.2 of scoreless relief to improve to 7-7 on the season.

Mandee Edwards went 3-4 with three stolen bases and drove in a run, while Sami Parr went 2-5 with an RBI. Lacey Kerr was 1-2 with two runs scored. The Pirates outhit the Pioneers 8-6.

Game 2: Whitworth 6, Lewis & Clark 3 - box score and play by play
Whitworth came back from early 1-0 and and 3-2 deficits. Mangis went the distance to earn her second win of the day and improved to 8-7.

Kerr hit a two-run home run with two out in top of fifth to give Whitworth a 4-3 lead. Ashley Carey's two-out, two-run double in top of seventh made it 6-3. Sami Parr was 2-4 with two runs, Kerr was 2-3 with a walk, 2 RBI and three runs, Carey was 2-4 and Carrie Gibson 2-3.

The teams will finish the four-game series on Saturday with another double-header, scheduled to get underway at noon.
