FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Brittany Gresset broke the Whitworth University school record in the 50 yard Freestyle to highlight the Pirates' performance on the first day of comeptition at the University of Washington Husky Invitational.
Click here for Thursday results. Gresset finished 25th in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.09. The old Whitworth record was 24.25 set by Katie Klein in November of 2004. Natalie Turner had Whitworth's highest individual finish, taking 15th in the 500 yard Freestyle with a time of 5:00.02. Her morning preliminary time of 4:59.86 was only two tenths of a second off of her own school record of 4:59.66 set at last season's NCAA Division III championships. Both Gresset and Turner were part of the Whitworth 200 yard Freestyle Relay team that finished 9th in 1:38.80. The Whitworth 400 yard Medley Relay finished 9th as well with a time of 4:02.02. Both relay times improve on the Bucs' NWC-best marks from this season. The Whitworth men's 200 yard Freestyle Relay took 10th with a time of 1:29.02. The 400 yard Medley Relay was 6th with a time of 3:36.63. The Whitworth women are currently in 9th place out of 12 teams. The scores are: Washington 412, USC 390, Notre Dame 288, UC Santa Barbara 217, Wyoming 168, Oregon State 137, Hawaii 118, Whitworth 92, Boise State 80, Seattle 76, UC Davis 58, UPS 30. The Pirate men are in 9th place out of 10 teams. The scores are: Michigan 461.5, California 325, USC 224, Washington 217.5, UC Santa Barbara 177, Hawaii 145, Seattle 108, Wyoming 82, Whitworth 82, UPS 40. The meet continues on Friday with prelims in the morning and finals in the evening. |
