MIAMI, Ohio -- Samantha Kephart and Natalie Turner turned in individual All-America performances and the Whitworth University saw its first top-eight finish in a relay on Friday night at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships today at the Nixon Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Miami (Ohio).

Kephart (Sr., Santa Maria, Calif.) finished fourth in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.33, her eighth career All-America finish at the NCAA Division III championships. The top eight finishers in a race earn All-American honors. Ava Kiss of TCNJ won the event in NCAA DIII record time of 55.08. Turner (So., South Lake Tahoe, Calif.) finished fifth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.05. It is her fourth All-America finish in her two season's competing at the championships. Kendra Stern of Amhers broke the NCAA record by almost two seconds while winning the event in 1:47.19. Turner and Kephart also swam on Whitworth's 800 yard freestyle relay that finished seventh in a new Whitworth and Northwest Conference record time of 7:39.78. Ashley Lecoq (Fr., Renton, Wash.) and Christine DeHaven (Fr., Gig Harbor, Wash.) also were part of the first women's relay from Whitworth to earn All-American honors. Amherst won the event in an NCAA Division III record time of 7:22.78. Whitworth is in tenth place in the team standings with 81.5 points. The meet concludes on Saturday with Turner swimming in the 1,650 freestyle and Kephart in the 200 butterfly, an event she won in 2006 and holds the NCAA Division III record. Brittany Gresset (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) will also compete in the 100 yard freestyle and the Pirates will race in the 400 freestyle relay. |
