TACOMA, Wash. -- (From PLU Sports Information Office) Northwest Conference power Whitworth swept a dual meet from host Pacific Lutheran on Saturday afternoon. The Pirate men coasted to a 140-65 victory, while the women's team posted a 124-80 victory. Click here for complete results. Whitworth's women were just too deep for the Lutes. Brittany Gresset and Samantha Kephart both won two events for the Pirates, Gresset in the 200 individual medley (2:19.75) and 200 freestyle (2:05.35) and Kephart in the 50 freestyle (25.39) and 200 butterfly (2:10.59). Natalie Turner won the 500 freestyle and Kelly Reynolds took the 200 breaststroke for the Bucs. PLU's Jessie Klauder duplicated her double victory from yesterday's win against Lewis & Clark by taking the 1000 freestyle (11:19.20) and the 100 freestyle (56.84). The only other individual winner for the Lutes was Casey Jackson in the 200 backstroke (2:1.94). Jackson was also part of the winning 400 medley relay for the Lutes. On the mens side, the five-time defending NWC champion Pirates were too much for the Lutes to handle as Whitworth won every event. Whitworth had three double-event winners. David Dolphay won the 500 freestyle (4:54.71) and 1000 freestyle (9:58.93), Michael Woodward finished first in the 200 individual medley (1:58.42) and 200 freestyle (1:49.81), and Justin Brandler took home the 50 freestyle (22.71) and 100 freestyle (50.18). Whitworth's teams will try to complete undefeated Northwest Conference records next Saturday when the Pirates host Puget Sound. |
