Whitworth Women Knock Off Seatte Univ.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Natalie Turner and Samantha Kephart won three individual events apiece to lead Whitworth University's women to a 134-128 win over NCAA Div. II Seattle University on Saturday night. The visiting Pirates lost the men's dual meet 170-92.

Turner and Kephart took six of the eight victories Whitworth's women earned in the 16-event dual meet. They also paired with Brittany Gresset and Brenda Foster to win the opening 200 Medley Relay in 1:51.13.

Kephart earned a strong NCAA Div. III provisional national qualifying time while winning the 200 yard butterfly in 2:07.01. She also won the 100 butterfly (58.94) and the 100 yard freestyle (54.44).

Turner won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:45.28, then turned right around to win the 200 freestyle in 1:55.46. She finished her meet by winning the 500 freestyle in 5:13.58.

Gresset won the 50 freestyle in 24.80 and finished second to Kephart in the 100 freestyle.

David Dolphay won the only event of the night for the Pirate men, taking the 1,000 freestyle in 9:59.46. He finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:43.66.

While an NCAA Div. II program currently, Seattle University is in transition to NCAA Div. I status and the Pirates have not beaten the Redhawks since the school left the Northwest Conference in 1999.

The Pirates will return to Northwest Conference dual meets next weekend at Lewis & Clark College (Friday) and Willamette University (Saturday).
