FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Whitworth posted three new NCAA provisional qualifying marks and several season-best times throughout the weekend at the Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington at the King County Aquatic Center.
Click here for complete meet results. All ten of Whitworth's relay teams posted season-best swims. The Pirate women posted the best times in the Northwest Conference this season in the 200-yard freestyle Relay (1:39.43), the 400-yard free relay (3:36.43) and the 800-yard free relay (7:57.80). The Whitworth men swam the NWC's best time in the 800 free relay (7:06.75) this season. Natalie Turner and Brittany Gresset each posted NCAA "B" (provisional) qualifying times during the meet. Turner made the B cut in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.36) and 500-yard freestyle (5:07.87). Gresset just missed her own school record in the 50-yard freestyle by one one-hundredth of a second (24.09) and improved her NCAA B mark this season. Also, Turner posted a 53.27 and Gresset went 53.35 for the two fastest 100-yard freestyle times in the NWC this season. Other impressive swims for the women's team this weekend included Yasmeen Kheshgi's 200-yard I.M. (2:15.90), Ashley Lecoq's 100-yard butterfly (59.09) and Amy Gray's times in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.46) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.96). Michael Woodward had a strong meet for the Pirate men. He posted an NCAA B cut in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.41), by far the fastest time in the NWC this fall. He also now has the NWC's best time in the 200-yard I.M. (1:56.65) as well. Rory Buck improved his conference-best time in the 50-yard freestyle (21.57), while Quinton Darling posted the conference's fastest time yet in the 400-yard I.M. (4:16.24). Whitworth will not return to competition again until January 10, when the Pirates travel west to take on Seattle University in men's and women's dual meets.
