SPOKANE, Wash. -- For the second straight day, both of Whitworth's swimming teams swept all 11 events against a Northwest Conference opponent. This time the Pirates defeated visiting Lewis & Clark as the women won 141-52 and the men won 167-25 at the Whitworth Aquatic Center.
Jennifer Benson and Brittany Gresset each won a pair of events for the Whitworth women. Benson won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.95 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.04. Gresset swept the 50-yard freestyle (24.74) and 100-yard freestyle (55.79). Natalie Turner posted the NWC's fastest time this season in the 200-yard individual medley and Ashley Lecoq won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:13.67. Benson finished the weekend with a team-high four individual victories for the Pirates. The Whitworth men got a pair of wins from Michael Woodward. A day after setting the NWC's best mark in the 500-yard freestyle against Willamette, Woodward swept both sprint freestyle events, taking the 50 free in 22.22 and the 100 free in 48.24. He also won four events this weekend. Kyle Homad won the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.43) and Quentin Darling took the 200 I.M. (2:01.80). Justin Leyendekker led a 1-2-3 Whitworth sweep in the 200 butterfly (2:05.64), as did Rory Buck in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.63).
