SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Whitworth University men's and women's swimming teams rolled to respective championships at the Northwest Swimming Invitational after Saturday's second, and final, day of competition at the Whitworth Aquatic Center. Click here for Saturday's results. The Pirate women won seven of Saturday's nine events, including both relays. Whitworth came from behind to beat Puget Sound in the 200-yard medley relay 1:53.86 - 1:54.59. The Bucs then rolled to a dominating win in the final event of the night, taking the 400-yard free relay in 3:41.22, over five seconds ahead of second-place Lewis & Clark. Whitworth's Natalie Turner was the women's high point winner of the meet. She won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.36, then the 1,650-yard freestyle in 18:11.62 to give her three individual victories in the meet. Ashley Lecoq added her second win of the meet, touching the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly in 59.78. Whitworth's Brittany Gresset also won her second event of the meet when she stormed to a 24.25 in the 50-yard freestyle and Amy Gray overame Sierra Phillips of UPS on the final 50 to win the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:32.10. Linfield's Rose Hollingsworth swept the backstroke events, winning the 100-yard back on Saturday with a time of 1:01.79. Likewise, Lindsay Nixon of Lewis & Clark won both individual medley events this weekend, adding a win in the 400-yard I.M. on Saturday (4:44.69). The final women's team scores were: Whitworth 955, UPS 710, Lewis & Clark 675, Whitman 425, Pacific (Ore.) 341, Linfield 315, Cal State East Bay 277, PLU 244, Coll. of Idaho 156. Whitworth's men also won both relays on Saturday on the way to their team title. The Pirates won the 200-yard medley in 1:38.82 after Puget Sound was disqualified for a false start on the final exchange of swimmers. But the Pirates did not need any help in the meet's final event, running away with the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:15.14. Michael Woodward pulled away to win the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.25 and Rory Buck dominated the 200-yard breaststroke (2:08.27) for the Pirates' individual event victories on Saturday. Buck swept both breaststroke events this weekend. PLU's Jay Jones was the individual high point winner for the men. After claiming the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard butterfly on Friday in dominating fashion, he crushed the field by 14 seconds in the 400-yard individual medley on Saturday with a winning time of 4:18.72. Dom Rieniets of Linfield won the 100-yard butterfly in 51.97 and his Wildcat teammate Josh Parfitt won the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:02.09. Jackson Kowalski of UPS ended up sweeping both backstroke events after winning the 100-yard backstroke on Saturday with a time of 53.95. John Green of the College of Idaho just outtouched Whitworth's Rory Buck 21.62 - 21.68 to win the 50-yard freestyle. The final men's team scores were: Whitworth 993, UPS 754, PLU 655, Whitman 621, Linfield 440, College of Idaho 293, Pacific (Ore.) 238, Lewis & Clark 69.
