SEATTLE, Wash. -- Natalie Turner and Michael Woodward each won a pair of events, but it wasn't enough to prevent host Seattle University from sweeping a pair of non-conference swimming dual meets on Saturday evening. The Redhawk women won 113-90, while Seattle's men won 130-75.
The Pirate women performed well against the NCAA DI (provisional) Redhawks, winning four individual events and a relay. Turner won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.82) and 500-yard freestyle (5:15.46). Christine DeHaven won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:53.45, while Brittany Gresset took the 50-yard free in 24.68. Turner and Gresset joined Ashley Lecoq and Jennifer Benson on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:40.78). The Whitworth men won three individual events, two by Woodward. Woodward took both the 200 freestyle (1:46.56) and 500 freestyle (4:44.60). Rory Buck won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.53, but lost a hard-fought race in the 100-yard breaststroke. Whitworth will return to Northwest Conference dual competition next weekend when the Pirates host Willamette on Friday and Lewis & Clark on Saturday.
