SPOKANE, Wash. -- Winning all 11 events in both halves of the dual meet, Whitworth swept visiting Willamette's men and women in a Northwest Conference swimming dual meet on Friday night at the Whitworth Aquatic Center. The Pirate women won 171-21, while the men won 149-47.
The Pirate got a pair of individual victories from three different swimmers. Michael Woodward won the 500-yard freestyle in an NWC best time of 4:43.80 following a win in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.52. Rory Buck swept to wins in both the 100-yard butterfly (53.23) and 100-yard breaststroke (59.05). Quentin Darling won both the 400-yard individual medley (4:18.31) and 100-yard backstroke (59.02). The I.M. time was just off of Darling's best of the season. The Whitworth women got two victories apiece from both Ashley Lecoq and Jennifer Benson. Lecoq won the 200 free in 1:58.35 and the 100 fly in 59.14. Both times were just off of her season best. Benson won both the 50-yard freestyle (25.70) and 100 backstroke (1:02.91). Natalie Turner turned in the NWC's best time of the year in the 1,000-yard free (10:33.84) by nearly 20 seconds.
