YAKIMA, Wash. - Michael Shelton and Joe Wales of Whitworth have been named to the 2009 All-Northwest Conference men's tennis team, based on voting by conference coaches. The team was announced at the NWC tournament, which concluded today at the Yakima Tennis Center.
Shelton (Jr., Burbank, Wash. - CC of Spokane) was named to the All-NWC First Team after finishing the season with a 10-10 singles record, including a 9-7 mark against Northwest Conference opponents. He played all season as Whitworth's #1 singles player. He was also 11-10 as a doubles player this season. Wales (So., Salem, Ore. - Sprague) is a Second Team All-NWC honoree. His 2009 record, nearly all at #2 singles, was 10-11 overall and 8-8 against the NWC. Shelton and Wales played 20 times as doubles partners, finishing with a record of 10-10 in the #1 doubles position. The pair led the Pirates to an overall record of 11-12, an NWC mark of 9-7 and a fifth place finish at the NWC tournament. |
