SPOKANE, Wash. - Only 12 hours after completing a hard-fought win over Willamette, Whitworth was back on the court to take on visiting Lewis & Clark in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Saturday morning. The Pirates defeated the Pioneers 7-2 to sweep the season series between the two schools.

Collin Barrett won
twice for the Bucs

Whitworth (9-5 overall, 9-4 NWC) got two of the three doubles points against a short-handed Lewis & Clark (2-11, 2-8) squad. The Pioneers had to forfeit the #3 doubles match because they only had five players on the trip. Collin Zalewski and Henry Williams tore through Matthias Kullowatz and Quinn Roth-Carter 8-0 at #2 doubles. But Ray Peter and Vincent Groot of L&C knocked off Michael Shelton and Joe Wales 8-6.

Similarly Groot held off Shelton 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8) at #1 to gain the Pioneers' only singles' point. There were four straight-sets wins by the Pirates and one win by default at #6 singles.

Wales defeated Ray 6-3, 6-0 and Zalewski defeated Moller 6-1, 6-1. Oetgen topped Kullowatz 6-4, 6-3 and Barrett beat Roth-Carter 6-3, 6-0.

The Pirates are now off until March 24 when they play the first of three spring break contests in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Whitworth will take on Colby (Maine) on the 24th, St. Thomas (Minn.) on the 25th and Principia (Ill.) on the 26th.
