SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth freshman Mya Towne has been named the Northwest Conference women's tennis Student-Athlete of the Week.
Towne (Fr., Tucson, Ariz./Pusch Ridge Christian) led Whitworth to an unbeaten weekend, including a win over Linfield that ended the Wildcats' 108-match NWC winning streak. She was the only Pirate player to finish 6-0 this weekend and she improved her NWC singles record to 8-0 this season. She paired with Linh Aven (Sr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. / Chaffey) in doubles and they are now 5-0 this season. Two of Towne's wins came in straight sets against Willamette and Lewis & Clark (6-2, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-2). Towne is the first Pirate women's tennis player this season to pick up the NWC Player of the Week award. The Pirates are 12-2 overall, 11-0 in the NWC and ranked 30th in the latest NCAA DIII national rankings and 6th in the NCAA West Region. |
