SPOKANE, Wash. - After sweeping three doubles matches, Whitworth was even stronger in singles play during a 9-0 blanking of visiting Puget Sound in a Northwest Conference tennis match on Friday night in the Scotford Tennis Center.

The Pirates took all three doubles matches in a comfortable manner. Rachel Burns and Alli Marshall defeated Sam Taylor and Madison Holz 8-2 at #1 doubles, while Erica Bosman and Linh Aven took care of Alissa Wolf and Ada Yu 8-3 at #2 doubles. Justine Hays and Katie Staudinger doubled up Ashley Dombrow and Devin Fields 8-4 at #3 doubles.

In singles play the Pirates gave up only six games combined in all six matches. Bosman (#5) and Hays (#6) both won 6-0, 6-0, while Burns cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #1 singles. Avan (#3) and Towne (#4) also gave up only a single game in two sets. Marshall had little difficultly winning 6-2, 6-1 at #2 singles.

Whitworth will host Pacific Lutheran on Saturday afternoon, while UPS travels to take on Whitman.
