SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth opened its chase for the 2009 NWC women's tennis title in impressive fashion on Friday afternoon, rolling past fellow-contender Willamette 8-1 at the Scotford Tennis Center. The Pirates improved to 2-2 overall this season, 1-0 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 0-2, 0-1. Whitworth got strong contributions at the top of the line-up. Linh Aven played at #1 singles for the first time this season and came from behind in dramatic fashion to win 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) over Shannon Palmer. Alli Marshall defeated Kristen Dedijer 6-0, 6-1 at #2 singles. The pair then combined to win 8-3 at #1 doubles over Palmer and Abby Funabiki. Whitworth will stay at home to take on Lewis & Clark on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. |
