He was in third place after the first day. Spaun, who was able to complete in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships last year with a provisional qualifying mark, will return to nationals automatically this year. The national meet will take place at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh May 22-24. Spaun's second place finish gives the Pirates eight points toward the final team tallies at the NWC Championship meet on April 18-19 (also at George Fox). Curtis Powell finished seventh with 5,591 points and Matthew Perry was eighth with 5,403 points. Powell's place scores two team points, while Parry added one point for a total of 11 points for the Pirate men at the NWC meet. Kristen Dormaier finished third in the NWC women's heptathlon with 4,091 points. She just missed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 4,100. Dormaier, who was fourth after the first day, had the meet's best marks in the 200 dash (26.95, 716 points) and the long jump (17'-1.5", 620 points). Dormaier repeated her third place finish from 2007. Courthey Hutchins totaled 3,609 points for sixth place, while Kathryn Pridgen finished eighth with 3,494 points. The Pirates pick up 10 points toward the final NWC standings. Whitworth's final warm up before the NWC Championship meet will be the Arnie Pelluer Invitational at Eastern Washington University next Friday.
