Kintner and Dormaier Excel at Pelluer Invite

Jeff Kintner

CHENEY, Wash. - Jeff Kintner posted two more NCAA Division III provisional national qualifying marks, while Kristen Dormaier set a new Whitworth University record and also provisionally qualified for nationals today at the EWU Pelluer Invitational.

Kintner won the shot put with a season-best mark of 52'-2.5", bettering his own top mark posted in the Northwest Conference this season. Kintner also had a season-best and NWC-best mark in the hammer throw with a distance of 170'-1". Both are NCAA provisional qualifying marks.

Cody Stelzer added to his list of wins in 2008 when he tied for the top mark in the high jump (6'-9"). He also qualified for the Northwest Conference championship meet with distances of 21-8" in the long jump and 43'-4.5" in the triple jump.

Kristen Dormaier

Nick Gallagher finished second (top collegiate finisher) in the 5,000 meters with a season-best time of 15:20.18.

Dormaier finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 37'-0.25", breaking the previous school record of 36'-4" set by Rosalie Pope in 1997. Dormaier's mark also is an NCAA provisional qualifier.

The Pirates also had two event winners in the women's meet. Elizabeth Mattila won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.75. Emily Morehouse won the 3,000 steeplechase in 12:02.66.

Whitworth will now compete at the Northwest Conference championship meet on Friday and Saturday (April 18-19) at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon.
