SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth University split its track and field squad on Saturday, with a select group of athletes competing at the University of Oregon Preview and the majority of the team posting solid marks at the Dusty Lane Open, hosted by the Community Colleges of Spokane.

Emmanuel Bofa (Jr., Puyallup, Wash.) and Jeff Kintner (Jr., Wenatchee, Wash.) each won an event and posted an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark at the Oregon Preview on Saturday.

Bofa raced to a 1:51.74 to win the 800 meter run by nearly three seconds of the second place finisher. He just missed an NCAA Division III automatic qualifying mark (1:51.10) in the process. Kintner won the shot put with a distance of 15.93 meters (52'-3.25"), also an NCAA provisional qualifier.

Cody Stelzer (Jr., The Dalles, Ore.) had the second-highest high jump (2.02 meters, 6'-7.5"), but finished fifth in the final standings based on number of misses. He nearly just reached the NCAA provisional qualifying mark (2.02 meters), despite jumping in a pair of borrowed shoes.

Joey VanHoomissen (Sr., Renton, Wash.) nearly qualified in the hammer throw, finishing seventh with a distance of 51.20 meters (168'-0"). The provisional DIII mark in the hammer is 52.00 meters.

Elorm Atisu (So., Accra, Ghana) finished first in the 200-meter dash, second in the 400-meter dash and was part of the winning 4x400-meter relay, highlighting the effort of the Whitworth track and field team at the Dusty Lane Open. Atisu won the 200 in 22.94 and was second in the 400 in 51.58. The Pirate 4x400 relay won in 3:30.17.

Dana Misterek (So., Gig Harbor, Wash.) and Elise Page (Jr., Lake Stevens, Wash.) went second (2:26.93) and third (2:28.07), respectively, in the women's 800 meters. Misterek went on to finish second as well in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:57.33.

Elizabeth Mattila (So., Ferndale, Wash.) nearly made an NCAA provisional time in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.00), finishing second in 1:04.74.

Michael Wemple (So., Victor, Mont.) also came close to a national qualifying mark in the javelin (57.50m) at the Dusty Lane meet, finishing third with a distance of 57.47 meters (188'-6").
