MARIETTA, Ohio - Defending champion Emmanuel Bofa posted the fastest qualifying mark in the preliminary heats of the men's 800 meter run today at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, hosted by Marietta (Ohio) College.
Click here for the official website. Bofa (Jr., Puyallup, Wash.) won the third and final preliminary heat of the 800 with a time of 1:50.71. His was the fastest heat of the three, with four of the eight qualifiers to tomorrow's championship final. His winning time is a Don Drumm Stadium record. Bofa will start out of lane four in the final. Jimmy O'Brien, the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor Champion from Ohio Northern, will start in lane five. Last year Bofa won the 800 with a time of 1:51.01. Whitworth will conclude the championship meet on Saturday with six competitors in four events. Cody Stelzer (Jr., The Dalles, Ore.) will defend his title in the high jump at 11:30 a.m. (EDT). Jeff Kintner (Jr., Wenatchee, Wash.), Danjuma Quarless (Jr., Tacoma, Wash.) and Mike Nahl (Jr., West Seattle, Wash.) will all compete in the shot put at noon (EDT). Bofa's 800 will run at 2:50 p.m. (EDT). Elizabeth Mattila (So., Ferndale, Wash.) will run in the final of the women's 400 meter hurdles at 3:25 p.m. (EDT).
