CHENEY, Wash. - Emmanuel Bofa raced to an automatic NCAA Division III national qualifying mark and set a new Whitworth University record while winning the 800 meter run on Friday evening at the 38th annual Pelluer Invitational, hosted by Eastern Washington University. Bofa led a strong Whitworth finish in the event by winning with a time of 1:49.93. His time surpasses the NCAA DIII automatic qualifying mark of 1:51.10 and the Pirate school record of 1:50.74 Bofa set last season. Dusty Casseria finished third in the event with a time of 1:53.38, just missing NCAA Division III provisional qualifying. Tyler Alsin, running in an earlier heat, took fourth overall with a time of 1:56.59. Ron Whitley finished 5th in the hammer throw, but improved his NCAA Division III provisional mark to 53.35 meters (175'-0"), which currently ranks 11th in the nation. Jeff Kintner was second in the shot put with a mark of 16.43 meters (53'-11"), while Michael Nahl was fifth in 15.77 meters (51'-9"). On the women's side, Elizabeth Mattila finished second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.14. Amy Wyatt improved her lifetime best in the shot put with a throw of 11.95 meters (39'-2.5"). |
