Programs for Gifted Youth

An important part of the mission of the Whitworth Center for Gifted Education is to partner with the community to provide opportunities for and a public understanding of gifted youth. As such the center hosts and co-sponsors several events for the greater Spokane community.

Academic Competitions

Knowledge Bowl

Sponsored by ESD 101 and Whitworth University

The Knowledge Bowl is an academic competition in which students, grouped into teams, answer oral and written questions from a variety of content areas taught in high school. The top regional qualifying teams from each division continue on to the state tournament.

Science Bowl

Sponsored by the Whitworth University physics department and the Center for Gifted Education.

The Science Bowl Inland Northwest is an academic competition sponsored by the Department of Energy. This competition tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science. The middle school competition also features the Model Car Challenge, which tests participants’ creativity and engineering skills. The winning teams advance to the national finals, held in Washington, D.C.

Conferences

Celebration of Talent, Inland Northwest

Sponsored by Prodigy Northwest and Whitworth University

This regional conference is for gifted youth, parents and educators. Celebration of Talent features fun learning experiences for gifted students. It also provides parents with the opportunity to learn more about raising gifted children.
