Assignments:
There are three possible grades you can get in this class: an 'A', a 'Pass', or a 'Fail'.
To receive a 'Pass', you must:
- Attend all class sessions.
- Make all of your weekly shifts.
- Review one CD and present it to the class.
- Do one air check (see below for details).
To earn an 'A', you must:
- Attend all class sessions.
- Make all of your weekly shifts.
- Review three CDs: Present at least one to the class, and do written reviews for at least two of them.
- Do two air checks (the second one should reflect the feedback you got on your first one) (see below for details).
- Do three production hours (see below for details).
Production Hours:
Production hours are any work you do that benefits the station (not necessarily an hour's worth of work - sometimes more, sometimes less). Some ideas are listed below. If you have an idea for a production hour that's not on the list, just ask one of the staff members. Important: Make sure you tell a staff member when you do a production hour - that way, you'll actually get credit for it.
- Cover somebody's shift (or do more than one show)
- 1 production hour per show. - Make posters for your show (or for the station in general), make copies, and put them up
around campus (make sure to get them approved by a KWRS staff member and the info desk before you put them up)
- 1 production hour per approved poster design, provided you actually put copies up. - Make a KWRS sticker design
- 1 production hour per approved design. - Ask Caleb, Bud or Sara if they have any odd jobs you can do (filing CDs, typing up PSAs,
putting up fliers, etc.)
- usually 1 production hour per task, but it can vary. - If your written CD review is really good, we'll put it up on the website and give you a
production hour in addition to giving you credit for the assignment
- 1 production hour. - Work at the CD sale (we usually have one or two per semester)
- 1 production hour for every hour you help out.
Air Checks:
Every DJ has to record at least one air check. An air check is a tape/CD of what you say on the air during your show. Since our skimmer is often on the fritz, you can download instructions for an alternate (though more difficult) way to record your air checks. We also now have a few small, digital voice recorders - talk to Sara if you want to use one of these to record your air checks.
