MY PROFESSORS WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO GIVE ME EXPERIENCE AND TO HELP ME SUCCEED.

Caleb Hug

A computer science and physics double-major, Caleb was part of a team of Whitworth students and faculty who worked on a National Science Foundation-funded project, Intelligent Agents for Medical Monitoring Systems. The team researched and developed intelligent software agents that monitor and analyze data in complex medical environments and support diagnostic and treatment decisions.

Caleb co-authored two papers on the team’s research that were presented at international conferences. As a junior, Caleb won a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship; he then landed a fellowship from the National Library of Medicine to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he continued his Whitworth research and earned a Ph.D. in computer science. Caleb is now doing online experimentation with the Bing data mining team at Microsoft. “Whitworth helped prepare me intellectually and spiritually for MIT,” Caleb says. “My professors went out of their way to give me experience and to help me succeed.”
