Application and Awards Process

Follow the process below to ensure that you meet all application requirements. You must apply for admission to your chosen program at Whitworth. Only accepted students will receive a financial aid award.

Submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to the federal processor. You can do this electronically with a federal PIN. If you don't have a federal PIN, visit www.pin.ed.gov. Be sure to list Whitworth University (#003804) on the FAFSA, so that we will receive your electronic information.

FAFSA Priority Deadlines:

You will receive an e-mail with a link to your electronic Student Aid Report (SAR) from the processor after you file your FAFSA. Review it for accuracy and make any necessary changes as directed. The federal processor will send a simultaneous electronic record of your Student Aid Report to the financial aid offices you listed on the FAFSA.

Once the federal processor determines your expected family contribution (EFC), our office will let you know the types and amounts of aid you are eligible to receive. Our acknowledgment to you will be a Financial Aid Award Notice. If additional information is needed to determine your exact eligibility, your award may be estimated. Estimated awards are subject to change until complete information is received. (Please respond promptly to our requests for additional information.) Please notify our office of any changes in your family's financial status or of receipt of increased resources, including outside scholarships or private education loans.

If you are awarded a Federal Direct Stafford Loan, the amount of your eligibility will be listed on your award notice. If you would like to decline or reduce any or all of your Federal Direct Loans, please e-mail your revision request to finaid@whitworth.edu. Your award and file will be adjusted when we receive it. If you are a first-time Federal Direct Stafford Loan borrower, you must complete entrance loan counseling and a Master Promissory Note. Below are the links to both web-based processes:

Please note that students must reapply for financial aid each academic year. You should retain the PIN code sent to you by the federal processor. The PIN will be used for making corrections to the FAFSA and for the re-application process as well as for reviewing federal loan data. Whitworth's academic year begins in the fall and runs through the summer.

Some students will have increased costs due to study-abroad programs; these will be considered when the financial-aid office determines a student's award.

If you have questions regarding submitting special-circumstances information to the Whitworth Financial Aid Office, please visit our forms page at www.whitworth.edu/financialaid/forms.
