Summer Intergroup Dialogue Workshop

Date:
Thursday, May 23, 2019

Time:
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Description:
This staff and faculty development opportunity involves developing intergroup Dialogue Skills (IGD), allowing for practice in IGD, and focusing on facilitation skills. Intergroup Dialogue seeks to “educate students proactively to understand and work with intergroup conflicts that are not only historical and structural but persistent and present in their daily college lives” (Gurin, Nagda, Zuniga, 2013). This is accomplished through focusing on group-based social identities and inequalities aiming to improve and deepen intergroup communication and relationships, and cultivating social responsibility. The workshop is designed to apply social science research about group interactions to real world situations. It is designed for faculty and staff providing the necessary tools to use IGD in the classroom and other settings across the university, such as co-curricular and extra-curricular programs.
