Metadata

Metadata is applied automatically across all pages and does not require manual input for most fields. However, there are a few areas where content editors can influence what is output.

Page Title

The page title follows the format Section Name | Whitworth University. By default it uses the section name as it appears in T4. If a custom page title is needed — for example, where the section name is too short or not descriptive enough for search engines — this can be overridden using the Custom Page Title field in the Section Meta Description content type, which should be present in every section.

Description and Keywords

The description and keywords meta tags are populated via the Metadata tab on the section in T4, not through a content type. Navigate to the section, open the Metadata tab, and fill in the Description and Keywords fields there.

Canonical URL

A canonical URL tag is output automatically on every page, pointing to the current section's URL. Two exceptions apply: on fulltext content pages it points to the fulltext URL of that specific content item, and on mirrored sections it points back to the source section rather than the mirror. No editor input is required for this.

Social Metadata (Open Graph / Twitter)

Open Graph and Twitter Card tags are output on all pages to control how the page appears when shared on social media. These include the page title, description, and image. These are populated from the section metadata and page content automatically — ensure the section description and a representative image are set for pages that are likely to be shared.
