Accessing Emergency Care

How do you access care when the Whitworth Health Center is closed?

If the situation is a major (life-threatening) emergency, call 911 regardless of the time of day.

For after-hours care due to illness or minor emergency, we recommend the following:

  • Inform your resident assistant.
  • Providence Urgent Care is located at 551 E. Hawthorne Road, one mile east of Whitworth. The phone number is 509.489.2369. The clinic is open every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Local Emergency Departments:
    • Holy Family Emergency Department (3.3 miles)
      5633 N. Lidgerwood
      Phone: 509.482.0111
      Open 24 hours
    • Deaconess Hospital North Emergency Room (1.5 miles)
      8202 N. Division St.
      Phone: 509.473.3333
      Open 24 hours
    • Sacred Heart Emergency Department (7.6 miles)
      101 W. 8th Ave.
      Phone: 509.474.3131
      Open 24 hours

Be sure to have your insurance card(s) with you. Some insurance companies require preauthorization for non-life-threatening situations; read your primary insurance card carefully and call your company in advance, if you are required to do so.

If you have been involved in an accident: Full-time undergraduates, international students, and master-in-teaching students are enrolled in a mandatory accident-insurance policy (EIIA) through Whitworth. You must complete a claim form for payment. (Access the form by clicking here.) Students with the Hard Waiver Supplemental Sickness and Accident Policy through Whitworth must also complete and submit a claim form.
