Disbursement Information

For each semester, students can anticipate receiving their first disbursement after they have attended their first class. Funds can only be disbursed if the student's financial aid file is complete. To view disbursement requirements and disbursement dates, visit www.whitworth.edu/disbursement.

Cost Calculation

It is important that students know how their financial aid and tuition costs will change each semester. Your federal student loans are split equally each semester, though your costs change. Below is an example of how that looks for some students. Please take the time to compare your financial aid to your tuition costs to ensure you have enough funds each semester.

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Student Loan

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Student Loans are federally insured loans available to help cover the cost of higher education. Students are responsible for the interest which accrues on the loan starting from the time in which it first disburses onto the student account. To be eligible, students must complete the FAFSA. For more information about the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Student Loan program, please go to: https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/loans/subsidized-unsubsidized.

Credit-Based Loans

If you still need additional financial aid on top of what you have been granted through the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Student Loan program, you may consider applying for a credit-based loan. Students who are interested should apply for either a Federal Graduate PLUS Loan or a private student loan. Before applying, please contact the financial aid office to discuss your eligibility.

TEACH Grant

The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant provides up to $4,000 per year in grants for graduate and undergraduate students who intend to teach full time in high-need subject areas for at least four years at schools that serve students of low-income families. However, if a student accepts this grant and does not meet the above conditions, there are serious repercussions. If you receive a TEACH Grant and do not complete the four-year teaching obligation as specified by the grant within eight years of completing or ceasing your program of study, the grant converts to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Student Loan, which means that you will need to repay the grant with interest, including the interest that has accrued from the time that the funds were originally disbursed. For more information, please contact your financial aid counselor.
