Military & Veterans Resource Center (MAVRC)

Nestled among the pines on the northwest end of campus, Whitworth University's Military & Veterans Resource Center (MAVRC) is a 3,000-square-foot facility dedicated to supporting all military-connected students. This includes active-duty service members, veterans, their dependents and ROTC cadets. Whether you're looking for a space to unwind, build community or share experiences with others who understand your journey, the MAVRC is here for you.

Amenities

The MAVRC offers a wide range of amenities designed with our military-connected students in mind:

  • Computer lab with free printing
  • Group study and meeting areas
  • Community space featuring a gym
  • Living room with a large TV and surround sound for movies or sports
  • Recreation room with Xbox
  • Fully stocked kitchen with snacks
  • Complimentary laundry room
  • Outdoor patio
  • Rest and relaxation space designed for students experiencing post-traumatic stress (PTS), traumatic brain injuries or anyone needing a quiet place to recharge

The center is open during regular business hours, with additional access available upon request for evenings and weekends.

Resources

The MAVRC is also home to key support staff:

  • Phil Labrie, associate director for military & veterans outreach, is available for advising and one-on-one support.
  • Alicia Ordaz, VA certifying official, assists students with benefits and certification needs.
  • A VA work-study student position helps maintain operations and supports the MAVRC community.

Support & Community

The MAVRC fosters connection and camaraderie through events such as game nights, social gatherings and guest speaker series. This space serves as a welcoming hub for military-connected students to engage, relax and feel at home as part of the Whitworth community.

Upcoming Projects

To enhance the experience for all students, planned improvements to the MAVRC include:

  • A full kitchen remodel
  • Interior painting throughout the facility
  • ADA accessibility upgrades to ensure all students can easily access and enjoy the space
