Military & Veterans Resource Center (MAVRC)
Located among the pines on the northwest end of campus, Whitworth's Military & Veterans Resource Center (MAVRC) is a 3,000-square-foot facility dedicated to all military members, veterans and ROTC cadets attending Whitworth. Whether you need a place to decompress, build community or share your experiences with other military-connected students, the MAVRC welcomes you.
Amenities
The MAVRC includes its own computer lab, group study/meeting place, community space, kitchen, laundry room, patio, and a rest and relaxation space for individuals who may be struggling with PTS or traumatic brain injuries, or who just need a quiet place to decompress. The center is open regular business hours with access upon request after normal business hours and on the weekends.
Resources
In addition to these amenities, the MAVRC houses the office for the associate director for military & veterans outreach, Phil Labrie, where students can meet with Labrie for advising and counsel. The office for the VA Certifying Official, Alicia Ordaz, is also housed in the MAVRC. Other offices include a space dedicated to outside veterans services and two dedicated Vet Corps Navigators who provide peer outreach.
Support
The MAVRC supports military members, veterans and cadets through events such as game nights, social gatherings and guest speakers. This space welcomes military-connected students to be part of the Whitworth community.
Upcoming Projects
This spring the outdoor space will receive a makeover to include a patio, barbeque, new sidewalk with wheelchair ramp and improved lighting. Future plans for improving the MAVRC include a keycard access door, remodel of the interior kitchen, painting throughout the facility and making the house ADA accessible.
