Dorothy & Gordon Carlson Artist Lecture

Trinity II: Michael Brophy

Monday, April 27, 2026

The Whitworth University Art & Design Department and the Carlson Family are delighted to invite you to the inaugural Dorothy & Gordon Carlson Artist Lecture on Monday, April 27, in Weyerhaeuser Hall Robinson Teaching Theatre.

Portland artist, Michael Brophy, will be giving the inaugural lecture, which will explore his decades-long engagement with the human, natural and cultural histories that have shaped the Northwest and our sometimes fraught relationship and encounters with this iconic landscape. The illustrated talk will trace major themes and leitmotifs in his paintings, including homages to the region’s landscape in all its variety and explorations of human interjections into it through our endeavors and stories, as well as grappling with the impacts of climate, war, migration and technology.
