Art Research & Internships

The Whitworth Art & Design Department encourages all art and art history students to pursue internships in their vocational fields. We care about these experiences and require our leadership in the arts and front-end design development majors to participate.

Internships can range from semester-long programs to immersive Jan Term experiences. While some students have worked in arts organizations or professional museums, others have assisted local small businesses or departments on campus with their graphic design needs. Students also have the opportunity to work alongside their professors and visiting artists with research and creative work. Our art and art history majors have helped print original editions of prints with nationally known artists.

Students can also gain experience working at our university, through engaging with Beyond the Pines, Whitworth's student-run public relations agency, Canopy, Whitworth's yearbook since 1914, and The Whitworthian, Whitworth's student-run newspaper. Additionally, our student artists may perform research or gain administrative and curatorial experience by working with the university's permanent art collection and Bryan Oliver Gallery.
