Theatre Scholarships

Thank you for your interest in theatre at Whitworth University. We are excited that you're considering Whitworth as one of your college choices!

The Whitworth University Theatre Department offers scholarships to new and returning students in any major who are committed to participating in the theatre production program. The Whitworth Theatre Department features two annual main-stage productions, the Festival of Short Plays, senior capstone projects and a variety of other opportunities. We would love to have you join us!

Application Process

Applicants must:

  • Submit a recorded audition. Your audition must consist of a single one-minute monologue. In addition to your monologue, you may also perform 30 seconds of an a cappella song or choreographed dance. If you are primarily interested in the production side of theatre, you may instead make a three-minute recorded presentation of your portfolio (designs, renderings, stage managing experience, technical work, backstage experience, etc.).
  • Submit a résumé that includes a list of your experiences in theatre and a brief paragraph describing your willingness to commit to our program through performance, backstage work or other areas of interest to you.
  • Be admitted to Whitworth University.

Click here to begin the application process. The deadline to apply is Feb. 15. We will continue to consider applications after the deadline as funds are available.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

Regardless of their majors, scholarship recipients are expected to enroll in theatre courses in their first year and participate actively in the theatre production program through performance, backstage work, publicity and box office work, or other jobs as necessary. Failure to meet the requirements of the scholarship during the fall semester will result in the rescinding of the second half of the scholarship in the spring.

While students primarily interested in the dance minor are welcome to audition for theatre scholarships, please note that non-dance involvement will be required for all main-stage theatrical productions. Competition for these scholarships is keen, and we encourage you to prepare now!
