STEM Scholars Program
Whitworth University, in partnership with the National Science Foundation, is excited to announce the STEM Scholars Program. This program is designed to equip and support talented, low-income science students in pursuing science, engineering and math degrees and careers. The STEM Scholars Program seeks emerging student leaders with a passion to succeed in science. Curiosity and exploration are essential attributes of these scholars.
STEM scholars will receive the following benefits:
- Financial support of up to $15,000 per year on top of other scholarships and grants
- Start your journey at Whitworth early and "own" the campus
- Early move-in to dorms
- Paid, individualized math and science primer to help you hit the ground running in college math and science courses
- Pre-orientation and summer transition support
- Cohort community with Future Innovators Learning Community
- Learning community of like-minded peers
- Complete coursework that all Whitworth first-year students take together in a shared SC 101 (Introduction to the Flourishing Life) section
- Connections with STEM faculty and other STEM students
- Faculty mentoring in your discipline
- Peer mentors
- Academic resources including Supplemental Instruction (course-specific peer-led active learning sessions), student success coaches and tutoring
- Focused on preparation for post-college plans and vocational goals
Who is eligible to become a STEM Scholar?
Students must be accepted to Whitworth, complete the FAFSA and be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant. Students must have a science, engineering, math or interdisciplinary science major. The health science major does not qualify. Scholars must be U.S. citizens or lawful aliens.
