Honors Scholarship Weekend

Honors Scholarship Weekend registration will open in December 2020.

Who is eligible?

Honors Scholarship Weekend is an invitation-only campus visit event for high-achieving prospective first-year students who have been admitted with honors to Whitworth for fall semester 2021. Incoming first-year students who are admitted with honors are invited to attend one of the two Honors Scholarship Weekend events. Transfer students do not qualify.


About the event

The schedule, evaluation of participants and final selection of honors scholarship recipients are identical for both events. From each Honors Scholarship Weekend event, three students will be selected to receive four-year, full-tuition scholarships valued at more than $180,000, and 10 students will receive an additional semifinalist scholarship of $1,000 per year.

All students will be evaluated on the following activities. Learn more about preparing for these activities here.

  1. Informative Speech (prior preparation encouraged)
  2. Discussion with Faculty member (prior preparation encouraged)
  3. Individual Interview
  4. Essay 

Each program is limited to 125 participants, so we recommend you register early. Please see the online registration form for space availability. 

Honors Scholarship Weekend participation requires a $25 registration fee, which includes three meals, a parting gift and program costs (non-refundable within 48 hours of event). Shuttle transportation for students traveling alone is also available. If you will be arriving earlier than the scheduled event time, or departing after the scheduled conclusion of the event, you will be responsible any additional meals. You are welcome to dine in our dining hall. 


Parents/guardians are welcome. An optional parent program will be available during the student activities on Saturday and Sunday. Please see the event schedule for a list of activities for students and parents/guardians.

Please note

If you would like to audition for a music scholarship, music faculty will be available to conduct auditions in conjunction with each Honors Scholarship Weekend event. Please check the Whitworth Music Department site ( for details about auditions and music scholarships, which are available to students from all majors. The main music scholarship auditions will be held on Feb. 27, 2021, but there will be additional times available on the Saturday of each Honors Scholarship Weekend. There will also be an opportunity to audition for a theatre scholarship (specific date TBD). Theatre auditions will only take place on the first Honors Scholarship Weekend. If you are unable to make the first Honors Scholarship Weekend and would like to audition for a theatre scholarship, you will need to send in a video submission.
