Understanding Your 2023-24 Financial Aid Offer: Information for Graduate Studies in Education Students

Financial Aid Timeline
To qualify for federal financial aid, a graduate student must be fully admitted into a graduate degree program, be attending at least half-time and have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The online link is studentaid.gov.
Please refer to the steps below:
- Apply for admissions – be accepted
- Apply for financial aid with FAFSA at studentaid.gov.
- Note: Students will need to complete the 2023-24 FAFSA
- Receive a financial aid award
- Complete financial aid file – including online processes
- Refer to the financial aid checklist on Self Service
- Register for classes- make sure financial aid award is consistent with academic plans (credit load)
- Receive financial aid funds on your student account the week classes start
Billing Information
For the 2023-24 academic-year, students will be charged $675 per credit for most programs, except for gifted education, which is $665, early learning Montessori, which is $720 and elementary Montessori, which is $810. Students will receive information regarding payment options from the Whitworth Student Accounting Services Office prior to the start of each term. Disbursement Information
For each semester, students can anticipate receiving their first disbursement after they have attended their first class. Funds can only be disbursed if the student's financial aid file is complete. To view disbursement requirements and disbursement dates, visit www.whitworth.edu/disbursement.
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Student Loan
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Student Loans are federally insured loans available to help cover the cost of higher education. Students are responsible for the interest which accrues on the loan starting from the time in which it first disburses onto the student account. To be eligible, students must complete the FAFSA. Credit-Based Loans
If you still need additional financial aid on top of what you have been granted through the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Student Loan program, you may consider applying for a credit-based loan. Students who are interested should apply for either a Federal Graduate PLUS Loan or a private student loan. Before applying, please contact the financial aid office to discuss your eligibility.
Employer Tuition Reimbursement Program
If you have tuition benefits through your place of employment, Whitworth will accept payment when your company pays, usually at the end of the term. All you need is a letter from your employer that states the reimbursement policy. Take that letter to the student accounts office and sign a promissory note. If your company reimburses only part of your tuition, you can request that we bill them for the amount they will pay; the balance is due upon registration.
