Music Scholarships (Auditioned and Non-auditioned)

The Whitworth Music Department welcomes music scholarship auditions from all new students! Students have two options to apply for a music scholarship at Whitworth. The preferred option is for students to complete an audition. For band (woodwind, brass, brass) and choir students who are unable to complete an audition, we also offer a non-audition scholarship opportunity.

Music Scholarship Audition Information

We will conduct live scholarship auditions for new students on Feb. 8 and 22, 2025, in the Cowles Music Center on campus. For those in Western Washington who cannot make it to Spokane to audition, we will be holding auditions at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Normandy Park on Feb. 23, 2025. If you are not able to perform a live audition due to schedule or distance, we will accept a recorded audition. Recordings should be received prior to Feb. 15, 2025, to receive full consideration.

Music scholarship audition requirements vary by performance area. Please read the Audition Instructions for further information about requirements specific to your area.

Students are strongly encouraged to attend the Why Whitworth Days on Friday, Feb. 7, or Friday, Feb. 21, from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. This campus visit event involves a campus tour, admissions presentation, current student panel and more! This event qualifies for a one-time, $1,000 Visit Scholarship to cover tuition.

Here are some important dates/deadlines to keep in mind:

  • Feb. 1 – Deadline to submit your Music Audition Application
    • Note: You can complete your in-person audition (or send in a recorded audition) after you submit your Music Audition Application. Just be sure to submit the application by the Feb. 1 deadline; then complete your audition by the deadlines below.
  • Feb. 15 – Deadline to submit a recorded audition
  • Feb. 23 – Deadline to complete an in-person audition

We will continue to consider applications after the deadline as funds are available. However, to be considered for the largest scholarship possible, please apply by the Feb. 1 Music Audition Application deadline.

If you are visiting campus for another event, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your audition during your visit.

Music Scholarship Non-Audition Information

The non-audition scholarship option is available to band (woodwind, brass, percussion) and choir students who have participated in band or choir throughout high school. This requires both a completed scholarship application as well as a recommendation from their high school band or choir director. In general, students who perform a scholarship audition qualify for higher scholarship amounts.
