Academic (Educational Review Board) & Financial Aid Appeals

Students must meet standards to maintain good academic standing and to receive financial aid. A student may have unmet requirements in one category but not the other. Please read your letter to ensure understanding. Academic and financial requirements are different.

Academic Requirements

To be in good standing, students must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and at least a 1.0 term GPA. Students may be academically suspended if, after being placed on probation, they fail to earn at least a 2.0 GPA for the succeeding semester or term or at the end of any semester or term in which their term GPA falls below 1.0. Academic suspension will be noted on the transcript. The academic progression is as follows: Good > Warning > Probation > Suspension.

Financial Aid Requirements 

Satisfactory academic progress includes 1) completing a minimum number of cumulative credits at a pace of no less than 66.67 percent, 2) maintaining a minimum cumulative and term GPA of 2.0 and 3) completing a degree within the 150 percent maximum time frame. Students who do not meet these requirements within two terms – with one term being a Warning term – will be ineligible for financial aid.

Appeal Process/Form

Students who are academically suspended and/or are ineligible for financial aid, can appeal their status by completing the online Appeal Form. The information on the Appeal Form may be reviewed by the Associate Provost, Vice President of Student Financial Services, the Educational Review Board and the Financial Aid Appeals Committee. Further, some students may be required to meet with our associate provost to review an academic plan. One Appeal Form will satisfy both departments; however, their decisions are separate. 

Appeals can take up to three weeks to process, so students are encouraged to complete the form as soon as they know their status. If you miss the deadline, please submit an Appeal Form anyway. Late Appeal Forms may or may not be reviewed for the upcoming term.

You will be notified of your academic and/or financial aid status when the review is complete.
