Smithsonian Internship Semester

Whitworth University offers a 12 to 15 credit study abroad program at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., every fall semester. Run through the George F. Whitworth Honors Program, this program keeps three spots reserved just for history majors.

Highlights of this incredible experience include:

  • 6-9 credits of internship at one of the Smithsonian Institutes or Museums. Previous internship locations include the National Museum of American History, the Smithsonian Latino Center, the National Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian Castle.
  • 3 credits of Core 350H.
  • 3 credits of shared curriculum credit in Historical Analysis, Cultural Studies or Fine Arts.
  • Residential life on Capitol Hill in a safe apartment run by the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, where you'll live with other college students from across the country and have easy access to explore Washington, D.C.

This is one of the best learning experiences that Whitworth has to offer and provides invaluable professional development. Talk to your advisor if you are interested in applying to the program. Applications are normally available in mid-February and close in March, but you should begin preparing before the application window opens. You will need to provide recommendations from faculty. Submit your application through the off-campus programs website
