Health Science Tours

The Whitworth Health Sciences Department is pleased to offer tours to school groups interested in health sciences and health professions. Health science tours aim to provide students with a glimpse of college academic pursuits within the health science umbrella. We focus on areas used to study human anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, and pre-health professions (e.g., pre-athletic training, pre-physical therapy, pre-occupational therapy, etc.).

We offer an optional cadaver donor experience in our anatomy & physiology lab for school groups that meet the criteria below. Whitworth uses two human cadaver donors to teach gross anatomy. During a visit, students will be able to view these donors, receive detailed information about different aspects of anatomy, have an opportunity to ask questions, and even "glove-up" to interact with the donors if they choose to do so. The topics covered during the experience vary based on the interest of the group and the questions that get asked!

Cadaver donor experience criteria:

  • High school juniors and seniors only (roughly ages 15 and up).
  • Student visitors have a signed parent/guardian release form. Chaperones should bring the signed forms on the day of the tour.
  • Anatomy & physiology lab tours are limited to 24 students (not counting teachers/chaperones) due to room capacity; larger groups will be split up into subgroups.
  • Anatomy & physiology tours are limited to one hour in the lab.

Groups that don't meet the criteria for the cadaver experience can still visit the anatomy & physiology lab facility and learn from anatomical models and other age-appropriate materials.

Tour Schedule and Options

Tours are semi-customized. We have preset offerings and availability, but we will work with you to tailor your visit to your group's interests and needs. Generally, tours start at 11 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. All building spaces are subject to availability for each date.

Sample Itinerary
11 a.m. Anatomy lab cadaver donor experience
Noon Eat lunch in the campus dining hall
12:45 p.m. Human performance lab activity
1:30 p.m. PT, OT and AT lab spaces tour/activity
2 p.m. Optional entire campus tour

We accommodate multiple groups on each tour date by staggering group visit times in each space. Please plan to arrive promptly, as late arrivals may result in an abbreviated itinerary.

There are three main options for each tour; we will use your responses to these questions on the Health Sciences Group Tour Request Form to customize your itinerary.

  • Does your group want an anatomy & physiology lab cadaver donor experience?
  • Does your group want to eat lunch in our campus dining hall? There is a per-person charge paid directly at the dining hall.
  • Does your group want to schedule an entire campus tour with a campus admissions counselor? The admissions campus tour focuses on college life and experience.
