Things to Keep in Mind
Please note that the Spokane Arena requires all attendees (students and families) to pass through metal detectors and undergo bag searches prior to entering the arena. Please be prepared to give yourself extra time to go through security and to be seated.
The Spokane Arena does not allow weapons, balloons or outside food and beverages. Please do not bring any of these items to the Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony.
There is not a secure room for graduates to store their belongings during the commencement ceremony, nor will students be allowed backstage to retrieve any belongings following the ceremony. Graduates should leave all valuables that cannot stay on their person during the ceremony with a family member or guest.
The arena is very crowded after commencement, and it can be difficult for graduates, family members and friends to find each other. Before the ceremony begins, please decide where you will meet your family and friends afterward.
If you are making dinner reservations, please remember that the ceremony lasts about two hours and 45 minutes. In addition, it can take more time than expected for graduates, family members and friends to reunite and exit the parking lot.
Spokane Arena Parking
Graduates and guests will need to bring cash to pay for parking at the arena.
Assistance for the Hearing Impaired
An American Sign Language interpreter will be available at Communion & Commissioning, Senior Reflections, Baccalaureate and the commencement ceremony. Please ask ushers for directions to the designated ASL seating area.
Wheelchair seating is available on the main level of the Spokane Arena. You will find these reserved areas along the walkway as you enter the main seating area. Plan to arrive early and then look for an usher to assist you.
During the ceremony, pictures will be taken of all candidates as they shake hands with President Beck A. Taylor. Pictures will be available for viewing and purchase at Prior Moments Photography.
A DVD of the commencement ceremony will be available for purchase through the Whitworth Office of Alumni & Parent Relations. Orders can be placed here.
There is no child care provided at any of the Commencement Weekend activities. Please plan accordingly.
