Performance Opportunities

On the Spot Players
During the fall semester each year, students may register for TA 276, Improvisational Acting. Students from that class comprise the On the Spot Players, a group that presents improvisational theatre.

Membership in this improvisational troupe is by audition only. These players perform at various campus events (i.e. coffeehouses and Great Escape). They also tour schools and other venues throughout Spokane and the Northwest.

Stage II Shorts: a festival of short plays
Every fall semester, the advanced theatre students are required to take TA 361, Fundamentals of Directing. The final project in this class is a Stage II shorts. The student-directors select plays, audition and cast the players in open audition calls, arrange the requisite technical support, and rehearse and present the plays. The festival runs for a couple of days in December, with three to four plays presented each night.

Broadway Unbound
Broadway Unbound is a Whitworth Theatre and Dance Department showcase of student performers in classes from our dance minor and from other classes like Performance Theory, Acting I and II, and Mime. Lighting for each performance is designed by technical theatre students in collaboration with the choreographers and performers.

Staged Readings

Each semester, four or five plays are selected, cast and prepared for reading in the HUB.
