Message to Campus Following Appointment as Whitworth University President
April 19, 2010
Dear Whitworth friends,
Julie and I returned to Birmingham late last night after spending a wonderful Sunday morning of worship in Spokane. We were so delighted to see Zach, Lauren, and Chloe and fill them in on all of the wonderful things we experienced in our few days at Whitworth. They can't wait.
The bags are unpacked, the laundry started, and the list-making has begun. We are glad to be with our family again, but there is already a longing to be back with you – we have a sense of belonging in our new community. Thank you for that important gift.
Julie and I are absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude for the gracious welcome you all provided us. It was like a big hug. You students couldn't have been friendlier, faculty and staff more welcoming, or trustees more affirming. Bill and Bonnie were amazing. The glorious weather was typical for Spokane, I'm sure.
I will not be communicating with the entire campus again until July 1, but please know that every one of you will be in our prayers in the coming weeks. We pray for the successful conclusion of another great academic year for Whitworth, for those graduating students who will be leaving to serve elsewhere, and for the entire community as it continues to enjoy and celebrate an incredible era of leadership. Please keep our family in your prayers as we prepare for a cross-country move and the loss of things familiar. God's grace will cover us all.
I will be back in Spokane a couple of times between now and July 1. I hope Julie and the kids can accompany me on one of those trips. The Taylor kids will be the ones wearing brand new Whitworth gear running and frolicking in the loop like wild gazelle -- I apologize in advance.
May the peace and joy of Christ be with all of you,
P.S. My voice is finally recovering. Julie won't say it, but she misses the peace and quiet.
