Katriel Sahlstrom, '20
Region for summer 2017: Greater Anchorage
Hometown, state: Palmer, Alaska
Major, minor: Biology major, theology minor
Whitworth activities/clubs: Outdoor trip leader, Jubilation dance ministry
Most influential professor: Professor Mike Sardinia, my pre-med advisor. I truly appreciate how he listens to my struggles and encourages me by giving sound advice.
What Whitworth means to me: It's a place that helps me grow not by sheltering me from difficulty, but by giving me tools to face it. Whitworth has challenged me academically, socially and spiritually while providing me with an encouraging environment where I can grow well.
My favorite experience as a Whitworthian (so far): Going on a trip with Whitworth Outdoors to Banff, Canada, for Jan Term Break. We ice-climbed, skied, and snowshoed while enjoying good fellowship and eating delicious food.
What I hope to do after I graduate: Go to medical school and become a doctor. After that, I'd like to practice in Alaska as a family physician.
Why I'm excited to be a part of the Alumni Discovery Project this year: I am looking forward to hearing the stories of Alaskan Whitworthians. I know that I will gain an even better understanding and appreciation of my school after learning about the history of Whitworth through the stories of its people.
