Region for summer 2017: Wheaton, Ill.
Hometown, state: Wheaton, Ill.
Majors: Special education and secondary English/language arts
Whitworth activities/clubs: Whitworth chapel attendee
Most influential class or professor and why: Kira Austin is an outstanding professor for the education and special education department at Whitworth. Dr. Austin's passion for her field, as well as her rigorous classes have caused my desire to work with students with disabilities to deepen and strengthen.
What Whitworth means to me: A place where my beliefs are both challenged and supported, where I am expected to give my all while being encouraged every step of the way. Whitworth means the opening of doors to many opportunities that I did not know existed.
My favorite experience as a Whitworthian (so far): My favorite Whitworth experience was my freshman year as a resident of Arend Hall. I met my closest university friends there, and I had a blast digging into campus life while living 70 steps away from the cafeteria.
What I hope to do after I graduate: Work in a public school as a special education teacher. I have no specific location or school district in mind, and I am looking forward to where God will take me after my time at Whitworth.
Why I'm excited to be a part of the Alumni Discovery Project this year: I feel that Whitworth has a beautiful and deep history of including and strengthening students who come from all over the world, and I want to do my part in recording that integral component of Whitworth's underlying mission.
