Sociology is the scientific study of how people think, act and interact – a way of understanding the patterns behind everyday life. It gives organizations the kind of insight they need to make thoughtful, people‑centered decisions in a world that’s constantly changing.
But sociology isn’t just research; it’s an adventure. It’s the chance to explore cultures different from our own, rediscover the stories and traditions that shaped us, and work toward progress and justice in the communities we’re part of.
At Whitworth, sociology grows out of a community where faculty are approachable, down‑to‑earth and eager to connect. Their openness and encouragement create a space where students feel comfortable asking big questions, exploring new ideas and working together toward meaningful social change. Our faculty want students to develop the tools to understand people and, ultimately, to help create a world that reflects the love of Christ.
