Career Opportunities

The study of language helps one to think quickly and logically and to use words effectively; it also serves to sharpen memory. This kind of training can be applied to jobs in:

Chinese

Graduates with a Chinese minor have gone on for further studies in Chinese culture, language, history and philosophy, including being accepted to the Critical Language Scholarship Program (United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs). Graduates who want to increase their knowledge of Chinese language and culture have headed to China to teach English or to serve as nannies. Top employment opportunities tend to be in international businesses (business exporting/importing, technology).

French

Recent graduates in French have gone onto graduate school in French, history, theology, political science, English and education. The most common fields of employment include social services, business, translation, hospitality and teaching.

German

Recent graduates with a German minor have pursued further studies and immersion in German language, culture, history and theology through travel, internships, and employment in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Some have been accepted as Fulbright teachers living in Germany and teaching English. Others have taught in bilingual primary and secondary schools or have held internships in churches and Christian ministry organizations. Other graduates who have wanted to increase their knowledge of German language and culture have headed to Germany and Austria to pursue nanny positions and volunteer work with YWAM or Young Life. Top employment opportunities are in international businesses (business exporting/importing), technology, education, and Christian ministry.

Spanish

Recent graduates in Spanish have gone on for further education in a variety of academic disciplines in order to earn professional degrees. Students have been successful in a variety of fields after graduation. Many students go into education, becoming teachers at various grade levels and in higher education. Our graduates have also done extensive work in the nonprofit sector, both as volunteers and as paid staff. Much of this work involves the promotion and implementation of sustainable development policies and aid to migrant populations. Graduates have worked domestically and abroad in a variety of fields; a number of students have participated in the cultural-ambassador and cultural-assistants programs run through the government of Spain. Other graduates have gone into public service, marketing, Christian ministry, and the medical fields.
