Internal Research Funding Support

Weyerhaeuser Center Fellowship

  • Focus: Scholarship that models integration of faith and learning
  • Amount: $2,000 | $1,500 in June and $500 when submitted for publication (by next July)
  • Eligibility: All faculty on continuing contracts; also lecturers. Not eligible if received summer funding last year. Requires six weeks of dedicated time (to teaching/administration).
  • Application: Requirements emailed out by academic affairs with other summer opportunities
  • Due: April 1

Faculty Research Development Summer Fellowship

  • Focus: High-quality research with promising dissemination potential
  • Amount: Up to $2,000 | $1,500 in June and $500 after report sent to academic affairs (by Sept. 15)
  • Eligibility: All faculty on continuing contracts; also lecturers or emeriti. Preference will be given to applicants who did/will not receive internal summer funding last year or this year.
  • Application: Requirements emailed out by academic affairs with other summer opportunities
  • Due: April 1

Faculty Research Development Summer Grant

  • Focus: Support for summer scholarly activity which furthers teaching or research
  • Amount: Up to $750 in June (if stipend), or upon submission of expenses
  • Eligibility: All faculty on continuing contracts. Preference will be given to applicants who did/will not receive internal summer funding last year or this year.
  • Application: Requirements emailed out by academic affairs with other summer opportunities
  • Due: April 1

Provost's Scholarship Award

  • Focus: Recognize and encourage sustained scholarly activity and contributions
  • Amount: $3,000 | $2,000 in June and $1,000 when submitted for publication.
  • Eligibility: All faculty on continuing contracts who do not hold endowed positions; both junior and senior faculty are encouraged to apply.
  • Application: Requirements emailed out by the academic affairs office every September
  • Due: Nov. 15

Pam Parker Memorial Fellowship

  • Focus: Celebrating Professor Parker's legacy with a focus on travel support for research or teaching
  • Amount: $2,000 paid in June
  • Eligibility: All College of Arts & Sciences faculty on continuing contracts. Preference will be given to funding travel when presenting, publishing, or conducting course development rooted in scholarship.
  • Application: Requirements emailed out to College of Arts & Sciences faculty each spring.
  • Due: March 15

Hugh Johnston Interdisciplinary Research Grant

  • Focus: Interdisciplinary faculty-student research collaborations
  • Amount: Varies
  • Eligibility: Whitworth faculty who plan and lead interdisciplinary research work with Whitworth students.
  • Application: Requirements are emailed out to College of Arts & Sciences faculty each spring.
  • Due: April 1

University Travel Funds

  • Focus: Support for faculty scholarship presentations at conferences
  • Amount: For regular faculty, typically up to $1,500 if presenting; up to $750 if attending
  • Eligibility: All regular faculty without other departmental travel support; priority will be given to junior faculty. Lecturers may also apply but will be funded at lesser amounts.

  • Due: Rolling deadlines. Faculty are encouraged to apply early since funds are limited.

Dornsife Faculty Fellows

  • Focus: Learning community focused on community engaged in scholarship
  • Amount: $500 paid in June
  • Eligibility: All faculty on continuing contracts; also lecturers
