Grants

The following grants require that students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. These grants are based on financial need.

Federal Pell Grant

A federal grant for undergraduate students with financial need.

  • Eligibility: Financial need as determined by the information on the FAFSA and Federal Methodology, for highest-need students. Pell Grants are based on Expected Family Contributions (EFC).
  • Amount: $7,395 maximum for 2023-24 academic year
  • More information: The amount of Federal Pell Grant funds a student may receive over his/her lifetime is limited by a new federal law to be the equivalent of six years of Pell Grant funding. Once a student reaches this limit, he/she will no longer be eligible to receive Pell Grant funds. Students can view their lifetime eligibility on the NSLDS website at studentaid.gov.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

A grant for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need.

  • Eligibility: Financial need as determined by the information on the FAFSA and Federal Methodology, for highest-need students who receive the Federal Pell Grant.
  • Amount: Based on need level and available funding

Federal TEACH Grant

For students enrolled in coursework necessary to begin a career in teaching in a high-need field such as math, science, foreign language, bilingual education, English language acquisition, special education or reading specialist. Must meet certain academic achievement requirements.

  • Eligibility: Must be a U.S. citizen, or eligible non-citizen and complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Students do not need to demonstrate financial need but must be admitted to the education program (typically during sophomore year) pursuing a major or minor in one of the high-need subjects listed above. Must be willing to repay the grant as loan with interest if fail to meet the four-year service requirement.

  • Amount: Up to $4,000 a year.

Washington College Grant

The Washington College Grant (WCG) program helps the state's lowest-income undergraduate students pursue college degrees.

  • Eligibility: Must have financial need as determined by WCG formula and be a Washington resident not majoring in theology. To maintain eligibility, students must complete at least half of the credits upon which their grant was based each semester and cannot go more than two consecutive semesters in which they complete less than the full number of credits upon which the grant was based.
  • Amount: Maximum estimate of $9,739 for 2023-24

Whitworth University Grant

Funded, in part, by the generous donors of the Whitworth community.

  • Eligibility: Financial need as determined by the Whitworth Financial Aid Office. Offered based on admissions application and/or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Amount: Based on need level and available funding
  • Conditions: All Whitworth-sponsored aid is for tuition only.
